3rd Team Birthday Foldathon! Update - Week 2

Two weeks have passed now since we started our 3rd Birthday Team Foldathon, so it's time for another Update to see how we are progressing overall and compared to last week (Week 1).

I'll hit yous all with this week's statistics first off:
- 120,828 points (down 33,227 from last week's 154,055 points)
- 17,261 average PPD (down 4,747 from last week's 22,008 average PPD)
- Advanced 7 places in the team rankings to 583rd (advancing 3 more than last week's 4 places)
As you see we've dropped away slightly with our points output this week, meaning our average PPD obviously drops as well, but the team rankings can be quite random because we've actually advanced more placings this week! This could be just down to the fact that the teams just above us were no longer active, or they have a lower PPW output than us, whereas last week the teams just above us might have had a lot closer PPW output to ours. Anyway it was good to advance one place each day this week, because that does not happen easily!

And now for how we're travelling overall:
- 274,883 points
- 19,635 average PPD
- Advanced 11 places in the team rankings to 583rd (starting from 594th)
I think we're doing quite well here as a team, and should surpass the total of 376,655 points recorded in last year's results, by next week's update.

Our top 3 points returners have spread out slightly:
Position - Team Member - Total Points - Avg. PPD*
1st - Reece (Stats) - 87,124 - 6,223
2nd - Jens_Klausen (Stats) - 72,025 - 5,145
3rd - QCKRNU (Stats) - 54,798 - 3,914

*Average PPD (Points Per Day) = Total Points / Day no.

Reece has pulled ahead a bit more from Jens_Klausen, whilst QCKRNU has fallen a fair bit behind due to some downtime. He's currenlty switching out his 9800 GX2 graphics card's standard air cooling setup (heatsink & fan) in favour of watercooling (using a waterblock). Just preparing for an Aussie summer i guess! haha :p

Let's keep pushing on to our next update!

PPW = Points Per Week

Points Milestone - Delta_Leviathan - 20k

Delta_Leviathan has made a recent comeback to folding, and it's resulted in him finally passing the 20,000 Points Milestone, which until now, has just been out of reach!

With 139 work units returned, he's earned 20,203 points so far. This positions him 22nd on the team, and 188,310th out of 1,311,916 all-time folders. Glad to see ya back mate ;)

Friday the 13th causing F@H Statistics Server hiccup?

UPDATE (11:40 PM, Tuesday, November 24, 2009): An update from Vijay on his blog - Stats recredit in progress simply says that:
"We're running a stats recredit from Nov 12. Sorry for the delay in getting this going."
It was posted at lunch PST time (12:32 PM Monday, November 23rd PST time to be exact) which means it was this morning here (7:32 AM Tuesday, November 24th AEDT time) when the stats were started to be recredited, so today's PPD figures are probably a bit higher than you'd expect! END OF UPDATE

Vijay Pande has reported on his blog that there has been a recent hiccup to do with the Folding@Home Statistics Server, in which a few stats updates have been missed, leaving work units uncredited during that time.

Could this be anything to do with Friday the 13th? Well... not really. The best that I could do to link this event with the superstitious day of bad luck, was the fact that Vijay's report was posted 6:54 AM Thursday, November 12th PST time, which means it was 1:54 AM Friday, November 13th here (AEDT time). That is a very weak link, because it wasn't even Friday the 13th there in California, and also apparently the problem happened overnight (the report followed in the morning), so the problems might have started on Wednesday night there, which means it was still Thursday the 12th here! Haha, very weak link.

Geting back to the story, the missed updates were backed up on another machine, and the data will be re-entered, however it will have to be done manually as they want to make sure it is done right. This will take a couple of days, but don't worry, any uncredited work units you returned recently should be fixed up soon and will be reflected on the Team/Donor stats ;)

[PS3-Leagues.co.uk]_Juancornetto_PS3 has passed the 1,000 Points Milestone!

Nearly two months ago, [PS3-Leagues.co.uk]_Juancornetto_PS3 joined up as our first and only PS3-Leagues.co.uk SubTeam member. Now, he's got his first Achievement.

He's earned exactly 1,004 points from 4 work units and other than obviously sitting 1st in the PS3-Leagues.co.uk SubTeam, he sits 53rd on the team and 667,457th out of 1,310,604 all-time folders. Good start champ ;)

3rd Team Birthday Foldathon! Update - Week 1

It's been one week since we kicked off our 3rd Birthday Team Foldathon, and I thought i'd give you all an Update on how we're going.

I'm a bit disappointed to see that whilst we are pulling big numbers, only 20 or so team members have actually participated in the Foldathon so far. Out of those 20, it seems less than 10 are doing the bulk of the work and the top 3 guys that i mention later, are basically 'carrying the team' in this event :(

So far, this is what we've achieved as a Team in this first week:
- 154,055 points
- 22,008 average PPD
- Advanced 4 places in the team rankings to 590th (starting from 594th)
Now you might have noticed that i've been keeping track of the top 3 folders during our Foldathon, listing them just below the countdown clock. These are three team members that are essentially 'carrying the team' as they're combined points return make up over 3/4 (78.7% to be exact) of the total points returned this week! (121,259). These guys do have computer systems (or multiple) that are capable of high PPD figures, and I acknowledge that some of you are doing your best, but to rely on these guys almost entirely is not good for our team's 'health' going forward. The sudden loss of peterdiva's high PPD returns a while back pretty much stopped our team advancing in the team rankings!

All I ask as is that as many of us as possible contribute a work unit atleast once a week, preferably more, than our team could move up the ranks a lot quicker and we can start to rely on there being a set amount of points coming in each day from the whole team, not just from a handful. During this Foldathon though, try to contribute as much as you can, and if possible, recruit some friends and family to join up as well ;)

The aforementioned 'team carriers' lol which is our 3rd Birthday Team Foldathon top 3:
Position - Team Member - Total Points - Avg. PPD*
1st - Reece (Stats) - 42,115 - 6,016
2nd - QCKRNU (Stats) - 39,716 - 5,674
3rd - Jens_Klausen (Stats) - 39,428 - 5,633

*Average PPD (Points Per Day) = Total Points / Day no.
It is still great to see how high our current points returns are, but i'll just stress again that every team member needs to do their bit. I don't see Folding@Home as something to just do 'every now and then'.. It's a project that needs your help, and regularly.

So as not to leave you feeling unappreciated, I do want to say that despite many members not contributing anymore, there has been a few of you that have come back on board, and it's great to see. I just hope everyone can stick around post-Foldathon and keep up the good work ;)

Let's push on to next week's Update and see if we can improve on our already impressive figures!

Points Milestone - QCKRNU - 200k

QCKRNU has now passed the Points Milestone mark of 200,000!

It's only been a month and half since he passed 100k points, which means he's been producing just over ~2,000 PPD since then. As you might have seen though in the last few days, he's capable of putting out much more (over 10,000 PPD). This is because his computer is packing a fair bit of folding power! See -> Look out! QCKRNU now has a GPU folding! to find out more.

Aussie Rules Footy is now on Twitter!

UPDATE (3:19 AM, Saturday, November 7, 2009): I've fixed the problems with twitter feed and manually tweeted the first few posts to catch up. I'll also be manually tweeting a few Amazon ads from time to time so be sure to check them out if you're interested ;) END OF UPDATE

Yes that's right, Aussie Rules Footy is now on Twitter!

Taking advantage of this social tool, i'm hoping this will help keep everyone up to date with what's going on with our team. Don't worry, I don't have any plans to make a team52735 Facebook page haha now that would be just silly!

I've tried to set it up through twitter feed so it'll grab any new Blog posts from the RSS feed and automatically tweet them! If i've set it up right, this post's title will be the 1st tweet and should provide a link to this post... hopefully ;)

If you haven't got an account yet -> Sign Up! Then go to twitter.com/team52735 and follow! Or if you like, send me an email at lahmyaj@gmail.com and i'll use your email address to then invite ya directly from the team52735 Twitter account.. Easy as!

Although it won't seem like it'll be useful, i've added a little Twitter Widget to the blog's sidebar up the top just so the last few blog posts can be easily seen. I did this because the Blog Archive resides below the list of posts (also where the 'Search This Blog' and Label Cloud is located) and sometimes you just wanna quickly see a summary of what the last few posts were about.

As you can see, I spent some time making up some cool logos for the account. Like with all images on the blog if you'd like to grab the original size picture, just click on either image.

If you guys have any ideas on what other features you'd like to see on the blog or if ya like these pictures, let me know by leaving a comment below ;)

Points Milestone - Reece - 10k

As you'll probably already know, Reece has passed the 10,000 Points Milestone!

This post is more just for formality reasons but Reece has ruled the last few day's news - The last 5 blog posts and last 4 Points Milestones!

His current stats: 10,223 points from 29 work units. Positioned 27th on the Team, and 269,381st out of 1,308,113 all-time folders. Coming 3rd in our 3rd Team Birthday Foldathon (check the little 'countdown clock' section of the sidebar up the top of the blog). Good stuff mate ;)

Points Milestone - Reece - 5k

Reece is certainly putting in a fine effort! He folded his way past the 5,000 Points Milestone today!

That and more! Similar to like I did yesterday, as a matter of formality, i'll leave the 10,000 Points Milestone pass to it's own post, but that mark has was also passed today!

Reece now has 10,223 points to his name, from 29 work units. He's moved up to 27th on the Team, and sits 269,381st out of 1,308,113 all-time folders. He's also sitting 3rd in 3rd Team Birthday Foldathon as you may have seen in our little 'countdown clock' section of the sidebar up the top of the blog. Keep it coming champ ;)
