smASHer88 and Lahm_Family folding names switch over

The computers that fold under the names of smASHer88 and Lahm_Family will switch over as of today.

When I started the Aussie Rules Footy team, I had only one computer to run Folding@Home on, and that was the old family computer (AMD64 3500+). I setup smASHer88 as my name (and therefore it's name) as not only did I not have a computer of my own, I wanted to identify myself more personally.

I bought my MacBook Pro 13" in June last year and as I explained then, the plan was that:

"My new MacBook Pro 13" will fold under Lahm_Family until it has caught up with my Family's old desktop computer (smASHer88) and then they will switch over."

Well that was the plan, but this year has been quite busy for me and i've simply forgotten to switch them over. Currently Lahm_Family sits on 135,546 points compared to smASHer88's 90,155 points, only 45,000 points past where they should have been switched over! lol

Anyway, that's how it is now :)

November 2009 = 3rd Team Birthday Foldathon!

UPDATE (4:11 AM, Wednesday, November 4, 2009): I've updated the countdown clock section of the blog's sidebar (right up the top) and have included information about who is currently leading and also further down, previous winners. The section will be updated daily when possible and will be based on comparing my daily Team Stats recordings to those that appear down below. This November marks 3 years since I started folding on my Family's computer under smASHer88 and created our Folding@Home team - Aussie Rules Footy. To celebrate the Team's 3rd Birthday, we're going to host a November-long Foldathon!

For those team members who don't know what a Foldathon is - It's where as many team members as possible, fold as much as they can within a set time period.

One of the main aims of the Foldathon is to push our team ranking position. Last year's results produced a 199 position bump! But starting at 594th position (as opposed to last year's 1,279th) means that the push for team ranking is so much harder because of the increased team competition within the top 1,000. I think though if we can put in a good team effort throughout this Foldathon, then we can advance our team ranking atleast 30 spots.

I'm also hoping Aussie Rules Footy will pickup a few new team members during the month as well. Please encourage your Family and Friends to join up ;) Of course your increased folding efforts during November will also be helping Folding@Home as well! lol

I've now edited the countdown clock that appears at the top of this blog's sidebar to show how much time is left until the end of our 3rd Team Birthday Foldathon.

The statistics below have been taken just earlier, and will be used in conjuction with figures from late on the 30th of November to decide our 3rd Team Birthday Foldathon winner! Now as like last year, if a team member has more than one name they fold under, then the sum of their names will be used (excluding typo'd names and default ('Anonymous' & 'PS3') names). I would love to be able to offer up a prize (or prizes!), but unfortunately until you guys start showing an interest in some of my advertising material lol, the team can't afford any. So the winner will have their name stamped in Aussie Rules Footy Team Birthday Foldathon history, with a list of previous winners to sit just below the countdown clock, year-round!

New Team Member - Lahm_Family

Lahm_Family is the newest name to appear on the Team Stats, debuting at 43rd position.

My new MacBook Pro 13" will fold under Lahm_Family until it has caught up with my Family's old desktop computer (smASHer88) and then they will switch over.

Since the Intel-equipped Macs (Every model for the last few years now) can only run the SMP Folding@home client (no basic client exists), my MacBook's first work unit was worth a massive 1,920 points! This sort of points return is quite normal for SMP folders.

Things are quite busy at the moment, but I will try to post an installation guide on how to get a Mac folding soon.

Points Milestone - smASHer88 - 50k

My computer, smASHer88 has finally passed the 50,000 point milestone!

Its only taken 167 work units to get there! Only! Folding since November 2006, my computer was initially on for only a couple of hours a day. Then as I was starting to download more and more movies etc. I started folding mostly 24/7 and was scoring nice 500 point work units which i'd usually complete twice a week, so it was a steady 1,000 points per week. But the last 6 months or so its been all over the place with what sort of work units its been getting, and seems to be very slow at times at returning them. I've calculated if my total points so far is 50,315, and i've returned 167 work units, then it seems my average points/work unit since starting is 300.

At the moment i'm placed 64,301st of 1,041,069 participants for all time.
